Eguavoen responds to question on ex-Chelsea winger reversing retirement decision before World Cup
Published: March 15, 2022Former Chelsea winger Victor Moses is set to be the latest Nigerian player to reverse his decision to retire from international football ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported last week that the Spartak Moscow star has reconsidered his position and is ready to wear Nigeria colours again if his conditions are met by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Having conditionally reversed his decision to quit the national team, Moses was expecting to be named in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming matches with the Black Stars but Eguavoen did not consider him because of ongoing events between Russia, where the player is based, and their neighbors Ukraine.
Eguavoen was questioned on why Nigerian players who previously called time on their international careers like Odion Ighalo and Moses are making a return to the team before major tournaments and was asked to clarify if a dangerous precedent was being set.

He told Elegbete TV Sports : "We want the best for the country, we want to try as much as possible to qualify and try to go as far as we can go in the World Cup, even possibly win it, why not? Nothing is impossible and we want the best legs.
"Yes, personally I spoke with Victor Moses and then I keep the rest to my chest. But for Moses to come back or whoever we are going to have to sit down and talk.
"We've had chats, we've discussed but every other thing I would not let you know on this platform.
"I will take it back to the office , discuss it and find the best possible way or the best solution, something that will not destabilize the team and make sure we achieve our goals."

Moses played in two World Cups for the Super Eagles and was an
influential member of the squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
