Slavia's Nigeria youth teamer nominated for Europa Conference League Goal of the Week
Published: March 18, 2022
Slavia Prague's Nigeria youth international Yira Sor has been nominated for the official UEFA Europa Conference League Goal of the Week for his brilliant strike against LASK at Raiffeisen Arena on Thursday.
The 21-year-old has been named on a four-man shortlist in the running to win the accolade and the other names he's competing with are Maximilian Wittek (Vitesse Arnhem), Cengiz Under (Marseille) and Douglas Augusto (PAOK).
In the 62nd minute of the contest, Sor ran with the ball from his own half, went past two LASK defenders and sent the ball into the net to make it 3-1.
He has been arguably the standout player of the knockout rounds of the Europa Conference League, scoring five goals and notching two assists in four appearances.
This is more impressive considering that the Nigerian made his debut in European competition twenty nine days ago.
Slavia Prague snapped up Sor from Banik Ostrava in the January transfer window, signing him on a deal until December 2026.
Other players of Nigerian descent who scored in the Europa Conference League on Thursday include Nonso Madueke (PSV), Peter Olayinka (Slavia Prague) and Cyriel Dessers (Feyenoord).
