Leicester boss reveals good and bad news about two Super Eagles invitees Lookman & Ndidi
Published: March 18, 2022
Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has provided a fitness update on his squad before their Premier League clash against Brentford at the King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Northern Irish football tactician brought good news regarding the availability of Ademola Lookman for the visit of the Bees.
The former England U20 international, who has been named in the latest Nigeria squad, was a surprise omission from the starting lineup for Thursday evening's Europa League round of 16 clash with Rennes and it has come to light that the winger was not in tiptop condition.
Lookman came off the bench as early as the 12th minute after Marc Albrighton sustained a groin injury, but was himself replaced with twelve minutes to go.
"Ricardo Pereira and Ademola Lookman were guys who put themselves out there last night even though they weren't 100 per cent, they weren’t feeling well," Rodgers said to Leicester City's official website.
"Both those players came into the game and gave their all for the team so they should still be available. "
Rodgers confirmed Leicester City and Super Eagles fans' worst fears by revealing that Wilfred Ndidi suffered a knee injury during the second half against Rennnes and in the worst case scenario the holding midfielder would be out of action for at least three weeks, effectively ruling him out of the back-to-back matches with Ghana.
He added : "Wilfred Ndidi, we just have to assess him. He may have picked up an injury which may keep him out for a few weeks, which is a shame."
Ndidi will be evaluated by Leicester City's medical and sports science teams over the coming days in order to determine his availability for the upcoming matches for club and country.
