Five players invited for the 2022 World Cup playoff match against the Black Stars of Ghana have reported for international duty, the Nigeria Football Federation confirmed on Monday morning.
Chelsea academy product Ola Aina, Tottenham academy product William Troost-Ekong, ex-Arsenal U21 skipper Semi Ajayi, Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka and Rangers center back Leon Balogun have landed in Abuja.
In the last round of matches, Aina was on the bench for Torino's 1-0 loss at Genoa last Friday, Balogun played the last three minutes of Rangers 2-1 win at Dundee, Ajayi went the distance for West Brom at Bristol City, Onyeka was an unused sub vs Leicester and Troost-Ekong was inactive for Watford due to the FA Cup break.
Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that Nigeria's interim boss Augustine Eguavoen will begin running the rule over the players called up for the matches later this evening, subject to availability of most of the invitees.
Of the twenty five players named in the finalized squad list for the back-to-back matches with Ghana, one will be dropped before the team flies out to Kumasi.
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium will host the first leg of the playoff between Ghana and Nigeria on March 25 and the second leg will be staged at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday, March 29 as from 1800 hours.
