Celtic, Crystal Palace, Wigan starlets of Nigerian descent named in Ireland U19 squad
Published: March 21, 2022
Three teenagers of Nigerian descent have been named in the Republic of Ireland U19 squad announced by the Football Association of Ireland on Monday, March 21.
Crystal Palace left-back Tayo Adaramola, Celtic defender Bosun Lawal and Wigan Athletic midfielder Babajide Adeeko will link up with Ireland U19s for competitive matches.
Republic of Ireland will be facing England, Portugal and Armenia as they try to qualify for the European U19 Championship for the first time since 2019 when they reached the semifinals.
Adaramola and Lawal are provisionally cap-tied to Republic of Ireland, while Adeeko will be hoping to make his competitive debut for the young Boys in Green this month.
Adaramola and Adeeko made their first team debuts off the bench in the current season before making their starting debuts against Stoke City (FA Cup) and Shrewsbury Town (Papa John's Trophy) respectively.
A summer signing from Watford, Lawal plays for Celtic's B team and has already debuted for Ireland U21s.
