'Go hard on him' - Osimhen shares what he heard Ghana assistant coach say to Amartey and Djiku
Published: March 27, 2022
Victor Osimhen has revealed what he heard one of the assistant coaches to Otto Addo tell Ghana central defenders Daniel Amartey and Alexander Djiku during the 2022 World Cup playoff between the two countries at the Baba Yara Stadium on Friday night.
Osimhen was a marked man with Amartey and Djiku carrying out the job to perfection, with the Super Eagles number 9 failing to score for only the first away game in World Cup qualifying, having previously found the net in away matches against Cape Verde, Central African Republic and Liberia.
Leicester City center back Amartey was one of the Black Stars players singled out for praise by Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen after the game, saying the strikers found it tough to breach the opponents defence.
"Mostly the assistant coach will come up from the bench and say, 'go hard on him', Amartey and the other defender Djiku," Osimhen told Elegbete TV Sports.
"They were trying to do the assignment very well but they don't know we have some kind of deadly technique that can actually get the job done for us. We are really happy with our performance".
He added : "They were trying to tame me, I am not the kind of player that makes simulations but when I'm hit for sure I will go down, it's part of the game, but when the referee doesn't call for a foul it's normal to react.

"I don't care what people are saying about me falling down. The game was really a massive one, the whole Ghanaian fans came out for their team but we were pushed to get something out of the game".
The atmosphere in the Baba Yara Stadium was extremely hostile but Osimhen claimed he was not intimidated by the fans.
"I wasn't intimidated, I've played in San Siro where it was all sold out and I know the kind of pressure it is but kudos to the team, chief coach and backroom staff for motivating us," he concluded.
Osimhen was present at the National Stadium in Abuja for the Super Eagles recovery workout on Saturday evening but was excused from taking part in any of the team's activities.
