The seventeen players in camp ahead of Super Falcons' friendlies against Olympic champions
Published: April 08, 2022Seventeen of the players invited for the Super Falcons double-header against Olympic champions Canada have reported for international duty, the Nigeria Football Federation have confirmed.
In the first match, the current African champions will take on the Canadians at BC Place in Vancouver on Friday, April 8 and the second match comes up on Monday 11 April at Langford's Starlight Stadium on Vancouver Island.
Leicester City central defender Ashleigh Plumptre has been granted permission to link up with her international teammates ahead of the friendly and was involved in the team's first workout on Canadian soil on Thursday.
Yewande Balogun, Ifeoma Onumonu, Uchenna Kanu, Onyi Echegini, Rasheedat Ajibade, Ogbonna Akudo, Rita Chikwelu, Christy Ucheibe, Onome Ebi, Michelle Alozie, and the Payne sisters also participated in the first training session.
Four more players joined the Super Falcons in Vancouver today, namely Amanda Mbadi, Peace Efih, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and Tochukwu Oluehi.
Canada Soccer are using the friendlies against the African powerhouse to prepare for the 2022 Concacaf Women's Championship, while Super Falcons boss Randy Waldrum plans to use both games to fine-tune his strategies and lineups before this summer's Africa Women Cup of Nations which doubles as the qualification route for the FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023.
