Nephew of former Super Eagles star youngest player to start a Ligue 1 game this season
The official website of the French Ligue 1 has compiled a list of the youngest players to start a league game for every club in the top-flight this season.

The record holder for the season is Rennes midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, who started in the top-flight from the first day of the championship in early August, at just 17 years and 135 days old.

Ugochukwu, nephew of retired Nigeria international Onyekachi Apam, had already made his starting debut for Rennes in the Ligue 1 before the start of the 2021-2022 campaign.

He made his full league debut for Rennes against Paris Saint-Germain in the penultimate home game of the 2020-2021 campaign, lasting 61 minutes on the Roazhon Park turf.

The sale of Eduardo Camavinga to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window saw Ugochukwu climb up the pecking order of central midfielders at the Brittany club.

This season, the French-Nigerian youngster has totaled eighteen appearances in all competitions despite struggling with an ankle injury in recent months.

Ugochukwu has played non-binding games for France at U18 level.
