Pundit would not be surprised to see 2019 Nigeria U17 invitee offered new Derby County deal
Published: April 22, 2022
Answering questions from Derby County fans, DerbyshireLive's chief football writer Steve Nicholson says he would not be surprised to see 2019 Nigeria U17 invitee Malcolm Ebiowei offered a new contract by The Rams.
Derby County were relegated to the third tier of English football, the League One, after suffering a late 1-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Monday, April 18.
The Rams, coached by Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney, had a
tough task on their hands to avoid the drop after they were slapped with
a 21-point deduction for breaching English Football League rules.
The 18-year-old Ebiowei is under contract with the Pride Park outfit until June 30, 2022 but his contract cannot be renewed for the time being because Derby County remain in administration.
Asked the players in the current squad he expects Derby to retain for next season, Nicholson said on DerbyshireLive :"It is difficult to say at this stage, Russell, because of the contract situations.
"When the club is in a position to offer new deals, I would not be surprised to see offers being made to Ryan Allsop, Nathan Byrne, Curtis Davies, Eiran Cashin, Lee Buchanan, Liam Thompson, Malcolm Ebiowei and Ravel Morrison, to name a few. "
Former Glasgow Rangers and Arsenal youth team star Ebiowei has been involved in each of the last eleven games contested by Derby County in the Championship.
