'That's the type of player I need in my team' - Ex-Man Utd star waxes lyrical about Bassey
Published: May 19, 2022
Former Manchester United and England midfielder Owen Hargreaves was quick to sing the praises of Calvin Bassey after Rangers were beaten on penalties by Eintracht Frankfurt in the final of the UEFA Europa League on Wednesday night.
Hargreaves was pleased with the performance of the Super Eagles left-back and highlighted that managers, players and fans would want him in their team.
Bassey's career has grown by leaps and bounds as just two years ago he was playing in the Premier League 2 for Leicester City.
And this season, the Rangers number 3 showed his versatility by playing in a variety of positions including left-back, left-sided central defender and left wing-back.
Speaking on BT Sport post-match, Hargreaves said: "Calvin Bassey, my word, what a performance. Everything about his game was fantastic.
"I'm sure anybody watching him will be thinking : 'That's the type of player I need in my team, to play that way'.
"That energy, absolutely astonishing."
Eintracht Frankfurt came from behind to send the Europa League final to penalties and in the shootout former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey was the only player that missed his kick.
