'They can’t rely on Antonio all season' - Ex-Watford striker urges West Ham to sign Dennis
Published: May 22, 2022Former Watford and Sunderland striker Kevin Phillips has urged West Ham United to sign Emmanuel Dennis this summer so as to give Michail Antonio a helping hand.
The Nigeria international has been put up for sale following the Hornets demotion to the Championship.
Dennis was one of the bright sparks in a poor Watford side, with a goal involvement of sixteen in 33 outings in the top-flight.
Phillips thinks the Nigerian could be more influential should he move to West Ham as he would be playing for a better side with creative players.
"They can’t rely on Michail Antonio all season again," Phillips said to Football Insider.
"A striker is a real priority, certainly. He could be one of these shrewd signings who can end up getting you 15-20 goals a season.
"He’s going to be playing in a more creative, better side if he goes to West Ham. All of a sudden, he goes from a £20million player to a £40million player.
"I think it’s a gamble worth taking. He’s shown he can score a variety of goals at this level."
Dennis will not have a chance to say goodbye to the Hornets away supporters on Sunday as he has been ruled out of today's clash at Chelsea due to a knee injury.
The 24-year-old is under contract with Watford until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
