Glasgow Celtic to make decision on three players of Nigerian descent

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are set to make a decision on the future of three players of Nigerian descent before the start of the 2022-2023 season.

The Athletic (subscription required) says a decision will need to be made on  the future of 2019 Nigeria U23 invitee Osaze Urhoghide once he returns to Glasgow after his loan spell with Oostende.

The Belgian First Division A side negotiated an option to buy the 21-year-old central defender outright in the summer.

Urhoghide was forced to head out on loan to Oostende in the January transfer window, six months after his celebrated move from Sheffield Wednesday, due to a lack of first team opportunities at the Hoops.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou also has to make decisions on two other Nigeria-eligible players in Bosun Lawal and Tobi Oluwayemi.

The two B team players would be turning nineteen this month and have reached a stage of development where they look ripe for first team football.

Postecoglou has to decide whether to give the premising teenagers a chance in the first team next season or loan them out.

The two players were invited to train with the first team several times in the recently concluded season, and the goalkeeper was a non-playing substitute in the Europa Conference League matches with Bodo/Glimt in February.
