Exclusive : 2005-born Anglo-Nigerian defender offered new deal by Manchester United
Published: May 24, 2022
Manchester United will announce their new intake of academy scholars for the 2022-2023 season in the coming weeks.
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that England U17 international defender of Nigerian descent Habeeb Ogunneye has been offered a two-year scholarship by the Red Devils.
As per Premier League rules, all U17 players are required to start next season on a scholarship deal before they are permitted to sign their first professional contracts.
Born in 2005, Ogunneye would be promoted to Manchester United U18 team permanently next season if he signs on the dotted line.
The 16-year-old regularly plays up the age groups at Manchester United and with that in mind it was a foregone conclusion that he was going to be offered a scholarship.
The Anglo-Nigerian is a modern day fullback as seen during his nine games in the 2021-2022 U18 Premier League where he provided assists against Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest, and forced an own goal in a 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers last month.
Ogunneye made his UEFA Youth League debut in the home win vs Young Boys back in December.
