Every word Iwobi said on return to squad, local players, Super Eagles new coaches
Published: May 28, 2022
Versatile Everton winger Alex Iwobi is delighted to be invited to the Super Eagles for their internationals in May and June.
The Hale End Academy product was omitted from the Nigeria roster for the 2022 World Cup playoff against Ghana in March due to the red card he received shortly after coming off the bench in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations round of sixteen clash with Tunisia.
Given his form for the Toffees in the business stage of the season, the unavailability of some key players and his early arrival in camp, it is all but confirmed that Iwobi will be named in the starting lineup for this evening's glamour friendly against Mexico.
Iwobi spoke to the Super Eagles Media Officer, Babafemi Raji after training on Friday evening and you can read every word he said below :
Alex, counting down to the game against Mexico. Another wonderful training session, how ready are you for the game?
"As you can see everybody is psyched up for the game.
"It's another opportunity to represent your country, it has been a while since I played because obviously I missed the World Cup qualifiers but I'm back again.
"It's not just me that is hungry, the local players are also hungry to prove a point, so we are going to represent and do our best for the country, hopefully we get the result that we want."
How has it been with the players, home based and the rest of the crew? It's the first time assembling after the World Cup qualifiers.
"It has been very good. Everyone is here to impress and everyone is giving a 100 percent.
"It's our first time with the new coach and the staff and we are warming into their ideas but it's still early stages but we are enjoying our time so far in this short period.
"We just have to make sure it continues this way to keep this unity and chemistry going."
