Nigeria starting XI vs Mexico: Rangers duo, ex-Arsenal stars start; full debuts for Dessers, Moffi
Published: May 28, 2022
Jose Peseiro has announced his first starting lineup as manager of the three-time African champions Nigeria ahead of a prestige friendly against Mexico at the AT&T Stadium in Texas, United States.
The big news is that Chelsea academy product Ola Aina has been omitted from the starting lineup.
It should be reminded that the Torino defender picked up an injury in the team's first workout on American soil.
As expected, Omonia Nicosia glovesman Francis Uzoho gets the nod in goal ahead of two Nigerian Professional Football League players in Adewale Adeyinka (Akwa United) and Ojo Olorunleke (Enyimba ).
Peseiro has gone with William Troost-Ekong, former Arsenal youth team skipper Semi Ajayi, Boavista loanee Chidozie Awaziem and Rangers rising star Calvin Bassey in defence.
In midfield, the Portuguese football tactician has named two defensive players in Innocent Bonke and Joe Aribo.
And in front of the Lorient and Rangers players are Hale End Academy graduate Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon, Terem Moffi and Cyriel Dessers.
Dessers and Moffi are making their full international debuts for the Super Eagles.
The full Nigeria starting lineup to face Mexico is as follows : Uzoho, Awaziem, Troost-Ekong, Ajayi, Bassey, Bonke, Aribo, Iwobi, Simon, Moffi, Dessers
