Super Eagles stars Iwobi and Dessers react to Nigeria's narrow loss to Mexico
Published: May 29, 2022
Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Cyriel Dessers have taken to social media to react to the national team's narrow 2-1 loss to Mexico in an international friendly staged in the United States on Sunday morning.
Cruz Azul's Santiago Gimenez opened the scoring in the 12th minute but Nigeria leveled matters through Dessers, who headed past Mexican goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota in the 54th minute.
The Mexico winner came two minutes later as William Troost-Ekong put the ball into his own net as he attempted to clear the ball from a delicate cross into the box.
Despite the loss, Dessers was delighted to open his goalscoring account for the Super Eagles on his starting debut, while Iwobi has taken positives from the match ahead of their next outing against Ecuador.
Against Mexico, the Everton winger made his first start for the Super Eagles since his appearance against Guinea Bissau at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Here's what Dessers and Iwobi posted on Twitter :
