Ex-Nigeria U23 invitee faces uncertain future as KVO consider Celtic defender's price tag excessive

Former Nigeria U23 invitee Osaze Urhoghide faces an uncertain future at club level ahead of the start of pre-season preparations.

The Glasgow Celtic central defender joined KV Oostende in the January transfer window in search of regular game time after struggling for minutes following his celebrated move to the Hoops from Sheffield Wednesday last summer.

KVO also negotiated a purchase option in the loan deal bringing him to the Belgian Pro League outfit, but the club's Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye has suggested that they have a faint hope of signing him on a permanent basis if Celtic do not lower their asking price for the 21-year-old.

Although he had a debut to forget as he was played out of position, overall, the Anglo-Dutch-Nigerian starlet has done enough to earn himself a permanent contract, going the distance in the last six matches played by KVO in 2021-2022 and helping them post two shutouts in those games.

"Urhoghide made a positive impression and is an added value for the team, but his price tag is too high for the time being," Ganaye said to KW via Daily Record.

Urhoghide has four years left on his contract with the Scottish Premiership champions, for whom he has made only one first team appearance and it came in a dead rubber Europa League clash vs Real Betis in December 2021.
