Lookman names Man Utd superstar as his childhood idol, reveals career highlight, nickname
Published: June 14, 2022
RB Leipzig winger Ademola Lookman sat down with the Super Eagles media team for a brief chat before the national team's 10-0 demolition of São Tomé and Príncipe.
Lookman put in a solid display as Nigeria ran riot against the Island Nation on Monday afternoon, and was rewarded with his first goal in the national team's colours in the 63rd minute when he latched on a rebound and slotted the ball home with aplomb.
A pacy and tricky winger, Lookmas has admitted that he looks up to Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and also namchecked the skillful former Brazil winger Robinho when asked to name his idol as a kid.
Still going strong at the age of 37, Ronaldo has scored 699 goals combined for four different clubs Sporting CP, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus, and holds the record for most international goals (117).
On his childhood idol, Lookman told NFF TV : "My childhood idol was probably Cristiano Ronaldo.
"I actually had a few like Cristiano Ronaldo, I liked Robinho but mainly the two Cristiano and Robinho."
A year ago, Lookman would have probably said the biggest highlight of his career was winning the 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup with England but now that his loyalty has changed he gave a diplomatic answer.
On the biggest moment in his career so far, he replied : "I probably have to say getting called up to the Super Eagles, this is a highlight, big highlight".
Lookman revealed the nickname that he is called by the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Joe Aribo, Ola Aina, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.
"I have a few. Kelechi calls me Adebaba. Joe and the English boys they call me Mola and some people call me Ade. It varies."
The Super Eagles have not been defeated in Lookman's four caps to date, having drawn twice with Ghana in 2022 World Cup qualifying before the recent wins vs Sierra Leone and São Tomé and Príncipe.
