Arsenal 4 Leicester City 2 : Super Eagles striker bags assist against fantastic Gunners
Published: August 13, 2022
Mikel Arteta's Arsenal welcomed Brendan Rodgers' Leicester City to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday in a thrilling Premier League game which ended 4-2 in favour of the Gunners.
Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi was named in Leicester City's starting line-up for the second consecutive league game after his return from a long-term injury.
The game started frantically as Arsenal dominated possession in the first ten minutes and forced Leicester back into their own half.
With the help of Ndidi, the Foxes braved up the pitch and started to push the Gunners back and almost scored a goal when Fofana got into the box but he could only fire a straight shot at Ramsdale.
Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring in the 23rd minute with a chipped effort after some neat build-up play.
Wilfred Ndidi was on hand to deny the Brazilian his second with a last-ditch tackle after he broke free on goal.
Jesus then scored an inevitable second in the 35th minute with a back post header. William Saliba scored an own goal in the 53rd minute before Martinelli equalised two minutes later.
Nigeria's Kelechi Iheanacho was introduced for English striker Jamie Vardy in the 70th minute and he made his presence felt by providing a beautiful assist to James Maddison in the 74th minute who slammed his shot home.
The Gunners restored their two-goal lead a minute later through Granit Xhaka after a mistake from Leicester goalkeeper Ward.
While Ndidi and Iheanacho did their best to salvage something against the Gunners, it wasn't enough as Mikel Arteta's men took the full three points.
