Caicedo v Ndidi: Who should Arsenal be targeting between both players?

With the Premier League season underway and the summer transfer window less than two weeks away, clubs are already putting the finishing touches on their various squads to give them the best chance of meeting their goals this season.

Arsenal is one such club aiming to finalize their summer dealings. Having signed the likes of Marquinhos, Gabriel Jesus, Fabio Vieira, and Oleksandr Zinchenko earlier in the window, the transfer rumours around the club went cold for a few weeks.

Now, there are rumours of a move for Brighton's Moises Caicedo who would provide adequate midfield cover and competition for Thomas Partey who has struggled to stay fit since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium despite being a key component of the team.

However, while Caicedo is no doubt a good player, one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League Wilfred Ndidi may be available for a transfer which begs the question, who should the Gunners be targeting between both players?

Style of play

Caicedo is an all-action midfielder who can be likened to a mini version of French legend N'golo Kante.

He possesses strong ball-playing abilities and is great at his tackling. Ndidi on the other hand has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League for a few seasons now, which means his defensive capabilities are unquestionable.

However, on the technical side, both players are not too far apart.

Age

Wilfred Ndidi is 25 years old while Moises Caicedo is 20 years old. While Ndidi is coming into his prime, Caicedo is just starting out and needs further development.

Financial package

Brighton have no need to sell Caicedo and will definitely demand an astronomical fee due to their initial sale of Yves Bissouma to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer.

Ndidi on the other hand would command a good fee bearing in mind that he has a reputation in the Premier League.

Comparing the above reasons, allnigeriasoccer thinks the Gunners' choice between both players would depend on what Mikel Arteta decides is good for the squad.

If he decides to go with a ready-made player who would make an instant impact, then Wilfred Ndidi is the better option.

However, if he decides to go with a project player who can be an understudy to Thomas Partey whilst being capable when called upon, then Caicedo would be the correct option.
