'EPL is the biggest league in the world' - Italian-Nigerian wonderkid excited to join Spurs
Published: August 17, 2022
Italian-Nigerian defender Destiny Udogie has spoken of his happiness at completing his move to Tottenham Hotspur, labeling the Premier League 'the biggest league in the world'.
The Italy U21 international has put pen to paper on a five-year contract with Totttenham Hotspur but was immediately loaned out to Udinese for the remainder of the campaign, meaning he has to wait until next year before making his English topflight debut.
In June, Udinese sporting director Pierpaolo Marino had suggested that Destiny Udogie would not be transferring to Tottenham Hotspur this summer but the offer from the north London club was too good to turn down.
Udogie says he's looking forward to working under Tottenham boss Antonio Conte and believes the Italian can help him develop as a player.
Speaking to SPURSPLAY after signing the deal, Udogie stated : "It’s a big honour for me to be here at this big club with a big history. I can’t wait to show my quality.
"It’s an honour for me to play under a big coach like Antonio Conte. He knows football very well, and I’m going to grow a lot with him.
"The Premier League is the biggest league in the world, the most difficult, and I like challenges, so I’m excited to start and, for me, playing for Tottenham as well, a big team, it’s a big dream come true."
Udogie is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in Italian football at the moment after a breakout season with Udinese that saw him register five goals and three assists in 35 appearances in the Serie A in 2021-2022.
