Chelsea hijacked AC Milan's move for Super Eagles-eligible central midfielder
Published: August 18, 2022Speaking on his YouTube channel, Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano gave the lowdown on Carney Chukwuemeka's move to Chelsea this month, stating that the midfielder was close to joining AC Milan, only for the transfer to be hijacked by the Premier League giants.
The Super Eagles-eligible central midfielder put pen to paper on a six-year deal with Chelsea, keeping him at Stamford Bridge until June 30, 2028.
Romano revealed that Chukwuemeka opted to join the Blues after direct conversations with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly and manager Thomas Tuchel.
Boehly, together with the Board, are building a team of talents for the future, and have brought in exciting young players Omari Hutchinson, Cesare Casadei, Gabriel Slonina, Tyler Dibling, Zak Sturge and Chukwuemeka this summer.
AC Milan submitted a proposal to Aston Villa for the services of Chukwuemeka that would have seen the Lions pocket five million pounds guaranteed plus an additional ten million pounds in performance-related add-ons.
The Italian champions gave the England U19 international a chance to be part of the first team but Chelsea snatched him from under their noses after a bid of twenty million pounds was accepted by Aston Villa.
Chukwuemeka played his first competitive match since his arrival at Chelsea as their development squad suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Fulham in a Premier League 2 fixture at Kingsmeadow on Monday night.
