Ex-Arsenal star makes transfer decision on released Chelsea midfielder of Nigerian descent

Former Arsenal fullback Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who now coaches Scottish Premiership giants Glasgow Rangers, has made a transfer decision on England international of Nigerian descent Ross Barkley.

The Anglo-Nigerian is on the lookout for a new club after parting company with Chelsea by mutual consent five day ago.

Rangers were linked with a move for Barkley before the summer transfer window closed for business but Van Bronckhorst has insisted that the attacking midfielder was not a player of interest to the Light Blues.

Scottish champions Celtic and Southampton have also been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old, however, a deal has yet to materialize.

Nigeria national teamers Leon Balogun, Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey were among the players that left Rangers in the summer.

Van Bronckhorst says Rangers decided not to bring in new players on deadline day because he's happy with the players in his squad.

Asked if Rangers considered signing Barkley, the Dutch football tactician was quoted as saying by Glasgow Times : "No, we didn’t. Of course, we know his availability, but he was never an option for us to take to Rangers."

Barkley, who made 100 appearances for Chelsea and scored 12 goals, can join a new club even after the close of the transfer window as he's currently a free agent.
