Chukwuemeka receives third call-up in Chelsea colours as two-time champions fall in Zagreb
Published: September 06, 2022
Anglo-Nigerian youngster Carney Chukwuemeka was an unused substitute in Chelsea's disappointing loss to Dinamo Zagreb in a Champions League game on Tuesday night.
It was the third time the central midfeidler received a call-up for a first team game since his summer move to the Blues from Aston Villa.
The two-time Champions League winners lost 1-0 to their Croatian opponents at the Stadion Maksimir.
The disappointing night started with the Londoners conceding in the 13th minute.
Mislav Orsic gave the hosts an early lead following a well placed pass from Bruno Petkovic. Despite controlling the entire first half, Chelsea failed to make it count.
Thomas Tuchel's men resumed the second half with the same approach used in the first.
However they couldn't assert their authority on the game, failing to convert goal-scoring chances.
Chukwuemeka, who was a non-playing substitute against Leeds United and Southampton, will be hoping to get the trust of his manager when they face Fulham on Saturday at Craven Cottage in a Premier League game.
Chelsea occupy sixth place with 10 points from six Premier League games this season.
The England U-19 star joined Chelsea in August 2022 and has only played for the development squad of the club.
