Confirmed : Nigeria-eligible central midfielder to get new coach at Chelsea
Published: September 07, 2022
Nigeria-eligible central midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka is set to get a new coach at Premier League side Chelsea.
With a statement on their official website, Chelsea confirmed on Wednesday morning that they have parted company with Thomas Tuchel, adding that Chelsea's coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of their upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.
The Blues hierarchy took the decision to axe the German football tactician after an underwhelming start to the season.
In the current Premier League standings, Chelsea occupy sixth place with ten points, having won three games, drawn once while suffering defeats to Leeds United and Southampton.
The straw that broke the camel's back was the 2021 champions losing 1-0 to Dinamo Zagreb in their opening match of the 2022-2023 Champions League - a game in which Chukwuemeka was named in the matchday squad but was an unused substitute.
Chelsea's new owners have invested heavily in the club this summer, bringing in Chukwuemeka, Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, Denis Zakaria and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but results on the pitch have not been spectacular.
Apart from making the matchday squad vs Dinamo Zagreb, Tuchel handed Chukwuemeka two other call-ups in the new season against Leeds and Southampton in the Premier League.
