Lifelong Real Sociedad fan warns Manchester United to watch out for Super Eagles star
Published: September 07, 2022
Four days after beating Arsenal in the Premier League, Manchester United begin their Europa League campaign with an intriguing clash against La Liga side Real Sociedad at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag's side will also face Francis Uzoho's Omonia and Moldovan Super Liga team Sheriff Tiraspol in Group E of the Europa League.
Ahead of the visit of Real Sociedad to Old Trafford, the official website of Manchester United contacted Roberto Ramajo, a lifelong fan who covers Real Sociedad for radio network Cadena Ser and newspaper Diario AS, to give the lowdown on Real Sociedad.
Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq became the most expensive player signed by Real Sociedad in their history when he joined them from Almeria on deadline day in exchange for 20 million euros.
It took him less than ten minutes to open his account for his new employers, netting a crucial equaliser in a 1-1 draw vs Atletico Madrid after coming off the bench.
Ramajo has warned the Manchester United players that they have to be wary of Sadiq and seven other Real Sociedad players in tomorrow's game.
Asked to name La Real players Manchester United should watch out for, he said : "Everyone, as there are very few weak links within the current squad!
"But if I was forced to highlight a few key players, I’d say Mikel Merino, the goalkeeper Remiro, central defender Le Normand, midfielders Zubimendi and Brais Mendez, Japanese creative player Kubo and recently signed Umar Sadiq... and David Silva, of course, who you know very well in the Premier League."
Commenting on the departure of Alexander Isak, Ramajo likened Sadiq to the Newcastle United summer recruit.
"His departure left the team short in attack and dealt a blow for the fans. Having said that, there are very good feelings about new recruit Umar Sadiq, who has a very similar playing style," he said.
Sadiq has made two career appearances against Manchester United in the Europa League, losing both during his time at Partizan Belgrade.
