Chelsea name eight Nigeria-eligible U21 players in Premier League squad

Chelsea have submitted their squad list for the first half of the 2022-2023 season to the English Premier League following the conclusion of the summer transfer window.
Blues new manager Graham Potter will be able to call upon the services of eight Nigeria-eligible players for Premier League games.
The players are classed as U21 players namely goalkeeper Prince Adegoke, defenders Derrick Abu, Richard Olise and Somto Boniface, midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka, strikers Louis Flower, Tudor Mendel-Idowu and Chinoso Chibueze.
Adegoke, Abu, Olise, Chukwuemeka and Flower are young professionals, Mendel-Idowu is in the second year of his scholarship, while Chibueze and Boniface are first year scholars.
For the 2022-2023 season, U21 players will have been born on or after 1 January 2001, and are are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.
Two other youngsters of Nigerian descent in the shape of Bryan Fiabema and Faustino Anjorin have been included on the squad list as U21 players but won't be eligible to feature for the Blues in the first half of the season as they have been loaned out to Forest Green Rovers and Huddersfield Town respectively.
Of the eight U21 players of Nigerian descent eligible to play for Chelsea, only Carney Chukwuemeka has received at least one call-up for a first team game.
