Battle for Ebiowei heats up : Anglo-Dutch-Nigerian starlet receives maiden England U20 call up
Published: September 16, 2022
The English Football Association are suddenly back in the race for Crystal Palace's teenage star Malcolm Ebiowei, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Four years after his last appearance for the Young Lions at U16 level, the former Chelsea and Arsenal schoolboy has received his first ever call-up to the England U20 national team.
The Nigeria Football Federation were earlier in the driving seat for the 19-year-old, with the winger training with the Golden Eaglets in Turkey and Abuja before he was included in the country's provisional squad list for the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup.
Despite Ebiowei's close ties with Super Eagles assistant coach George Finidi, he has seemingly accepted a call-up to the England U20 national team.
The Crystal Palace summer signing is also eligible to represent Netherlands and has played twice for their U15 squad.
England U20 boss Ian Foster has named Ebiowei in a 23-man squad for friendly matches in Spain against Chile, Morocco and Australia, as part of their preparations for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup.
Should Ebiowei make his England U20 debut this month, it does not restrict him from representing either Nigeria or Netherlands as the games are non-binding.
