Awoniyi, Dennis' Nottingham Forest seek three points in battle of promoted clubs
Published: September 16, 2022
Nottingham Forest have lost their last three Premier League matches and will be hard pressed for a win against a relatively easier foe in Fulham on Friday evening.
Taiwo Awoniyi scored Forest's first goal back in the topflight but has not been a starter in four games so far.
The Super Eagles striker who recently bagged a degree in Business Management from Buckinghamshire New University, Wycombe may be preferred upfront in place of Brennan Johnson who has started all six matches for the onetime European champions.
Awoniyi's international teammate, Emmanuel Dennis has played three games less than the former Union Berlin striker and perhaps is the Nigerian with more pressure on his shoulders to deliver tonight.
Should manager Steve Cooper elect to ring some changes in his starting lineup, Dennis could start ahead of Jesse Lingaard.
Nottingham Forest spent big during the summer transfer window, bringing in a total of 22 players and as the season develops, it's becoming increasingly clear that they will not be easy pickings for other opponents.
Tottenham Hotspur managed to get the better of them but were made to work hard for the three points and the unlucky 2-3 defeat to a struggling Bournemouth was a stark reminder that the team must not get carried away by the rave reviews they have received.
Their clash against the Cottagers is widely considered among some football faithful as a show of supremacy between two teams considered as likely contenders for immediate drop into the Championship.
On the opposing side, Alexander Mitrovic is tasked with scoring the goals for the London side and his physical battles with the Forest central defenders will one to keep an eye on.
Kick off for the game is 8pm West African time.
