Teenage CB of Nigerian descent involved in Arsenal's penultimate workout pre-Brentford
Published: September 16, 2022
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta promoted teenage central defender of Nigerian descent Zach Awe to first team training on Friday, the Gunners penultimate workout before facing Brentford in the Premier League.
The Spanish football tactician confirmed at the pre-match press conference that the squad will train again on Saturday before an update is provided on the team news.
Arsenal Youth team guru Jeorge Bird writes on his website that Awe was one of the youngsters involved in first team training today, the others being Reuell Walters, Taylor Foran, Amario Cozier-Duberry and Lino Sousa.
Awe has been registered on Arsenal's recently released Premier League roster as an U21 player.
Training with the first team is not something new to the talented centre-back as he was invited to train with the senior squad several times last season.
His only first team call-up was against Wolverhampton Wanderers back in February but he was a non-playing substitute for the game at the Molineux Stadium.
Awe has shone for Arsenal's development squad in the new season, helping them remain unbeaten after eight games in all competitions.
