Arsenal-owned Nigerian-born midfielder wins Man of the Match award
Published: October 09, 2022
Nigerian-born midfielder Tim Akinola was recognized for his impressive performance during the match between Eastleigh and Chesterfield at the Silverlake Stadium on Saturday.
On his full National League debut, the Arsenal loanee was the standout player as Chesterfield almost earned a share of the spoils but conceded in the second minute of stoppage time when Brennan Camp headed home from a corner.
Ousseynou Cisse tapped home to open the scoring just before halftime and Liam Mandeville equalised four minutes into the second half as his ball into the box found the back of the net via a deflection.
According to Chesterfield's official Twitter account, Akinola was awarded Man of the Match by co-commentator Josh Marsh.
The Nigerian youngster won the ball on several occasions and sprayed passes to his teammates when he had possession.
Akinola has appeared in four league matches for Chesterfield since his arrival at the club on deadline day.
This is his second loan spell away from the Emirates Stadium since joining the Gunners in the summer of 2020, having spent the second half of last season at Scottish outfit Dundee United.
