Man Utd 1 Omonia 0 : Uzoho steals the show as McTominay scores last-gasp winner
Published: October 13, 2022
Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho starred for Omonia Nicosia in their narrow loss to Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League.
Manchester United were 1-0 winners over the Cypriot football team in the matchday four of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
With first choice goalkeeper Fabiano not available for selection due to a shoulder injury, Uzoho got the nod in goal ahead of Konstantinos Panagi.
The 23-year-old gave a good account of himself by making twelve saves, nine from within the eighteen yard box.
Uzoho was called into action as early as the 2nd minute, as he denied Marcus Rashford an early opener.
Twenty minutes later, he was also there to stop a goal bound shot from Rashford.
In the 28th minute, Uzoho outstretched his arms to deflect another goal bound shot from the Manchester United number 10.
Four minutes later the former Nigeria youth international tipped Casemiro's effort to the cross bar.
The first half ended goalless. Despite enjoying a large percentage of possession, the Red Devils could not breach the wall of Omonia Nicosia.
In the 46th minute, he made a double save. Uzoho firstly denied Antony before parrying Rashford's rebound.
He'd also go on to stop Fred's 48th minute shot, preventing Cristiano Ronaldo from pouncing on the ball.
In the 70th minute, Uzoho pushed away CR7's shot and it resulted in a corner.
Eight minutes before full time, Uzoho was called into action once more. He parried a long range shot from Scott McTominay.
United finally got the breakthrough through McTominay. The Scottish midfielder feinted his shot before putting the ball beyond Uzoho in the third minute of stoppage time.
Manchester United are in second place with nine points from four games, while Omonia Nicosia remain bottom of the group without a point.
