Man Utd legend expects Tottenham youth product Madueke to be in PSV squad v Arsenal
Published: October 18, 2022Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy expects Tottenham Hotspur academy product of Nigerian descent Nonso Madueke to be in the PSV Eindhoven squad for their UEFA Europa League meeting with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The match originally scheduled to be played in September was postponed in the aftermath of the death of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.
Madueke has not featured for the Dutch Eredivisie giants this season due to an ankle injury he sustained in pre-season.
The England U21 international has recovered from the injury having resumed full training, putting him in contention to be named in the traveling squad to the English capital on Wednesday.
Apart from Madueke, Mauro Junior and Luuk de Jong are in the frame to return to action against the Gunners.
Providing a squad update, PSV manager Van Nistelrooy was quoted as saying by Get Belgian & Dutch Football News : "The match against FC Utrecht came just too early. I expect him (Madueke) to join on Thursday. It could be that they are also there.
"They will first make minutes and from then on they can really raise the competition in the team. With competition, you push each other to the limit. The players know that there are matches every three days.
"You make each other better and you can already see that the level is rising."
Madueke made a bold decision to join PSV in the summer of 2018 after declining a scholarship at Tottenham Hotspur.
In 71 career appearances for the Eindhoven club, he has directly participated in 32 goals (18 goals, 14 assists).
