PSG, Sunderland stars will not play for Costa Rica v Nigeria; ex-Gunner available
Published: November 08, 2022Costa Rica manager Luis Fernando Suárez will not be be able to call upon the services of his first choice goalkeeper Keylor Navas for Thursday's international friendly against the Super Eagles of Nigeria, according to AFP, via Diario Deportivo Diez.
Apart from the Paris Saint-Germain star, three other players named in Costa Rica's 2022 World Cup squad are not available for selection against the three-time African champions.
They are Sunderland midfielder Jewison Bennette, CD Lugo goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira and Konyaspor defender Francisco Calvo.
The aforementioned players will join The Tricolor at their training camp in Kuwait, where they will play another friendly against Iraq on November 17.
Former Arsenal striker Joel Campbell is in the frame to add to his international caps against Nigeria, and the same applies to Óscar Duarte (Al-Wehda), Celso Borges (Alajuelense), Bryan Ruiz (Alajuelense) and Yeltsin Tejeda (Herediano).
Nigeria are missing several key players based in the European Leagues, with the eighteen players named in the traveling squad to Costa Rica made up of footballers in the domestic championship.
The match which will hold at the San José National Stadium is Costa Rica's last preparatory game at home before traveling to Qatar for the World Cup.
