Ahead of the grade A international friendly between the Super Eagles Eagles of Nigeria and Portugal, Troost-Ekong said that playing the 2016 European champions will serve as a great test and an opportunity to check their progress.
"It's always s great opportunity to play against a very strong team. I think Portugal is among the best in the world and for us as a team we are trying to improve, " Troost-Ekong said at the pre-match press conference.
"We have been trying to improve our game, which we have a lot of things to work on.
"And playing against one of the best teams in the world is going to give us a great opportunity to see again where we are, hopefully make us stronger in preparation for the games that we have coming in March"
The Watford of England star maintained that coming together as a team despite not going to the 2022 FIFA World Cup is a good thing as it will aid the team's cohesion.
"So it's always a good opportunity for us to be together for some days as we don't get to see so much and work on the team Cohesion."
Troost-Ekong is expected to lead the side with the absence of Ahmed Musa.
Nigeria will take on the Portuguese National Team for the first time in the senior category, having faced off at youth level.
The game is set to hold this evening at the Estádio José Alvalade and will kick off at 7:45pm Nigerian time.
