Balogun overtakes World Cup star Musiala as highest scoring U21 player Europe's top 5 leagues
Published: December 30, 2022
Arsenal-owned striker Folarin Balogun is now the highest-scoring player aged 21 and under in the top five European Leagues comprising the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, German Bundesliga, Italian Serie A and French Ligue 1.
The Hale End Academy graduate bagged a brace as Stade de Reims claimed a 3-1 win over Rennes on Thursday and in doing so took his tally in the division to ten.
No player classed as U21 has scored more goals than the England U21 international of Nigerian descent in Europe's top five leagues so far this season.
Balogun has overtaken Bayern Munich's Germany World Cup star Jamal Musiala in the rankings.
Musiala is currently on nine goals in the Bundesliga but Balogun moved in front of him after his brace against Rennes.
Montpellier center forward Elye Wahi has hit the back of the net seven times this campaign and is third on the list.
Completing the top five are Napoli sensation Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Borussia Dortmund's Youssoufa Moukoko and Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli who have netted six goals for their respective clubs.
Another Hale End Academy graduate in Bukayo Saka is on five goals and ranks seventh.
