Is Olise switching allegiance to Super Eagles? Crystal Palace star, Nigerian dad make decision
Published: February 08, 2023
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report with certainty that Crystal Palace star Michael Olise remains committed to the French national teams for the long term, contrary to fabricated reports in the local media that sensationally claimed he was picking Nigeria over Algeria.
The London-born player also qualifies for a fourth country, England, and the Football Association previously tested the waters regarding the winger changing his association to England but were unsuccessful in their attempts to convince him.
Michael's younger brother at Chelsea, Richard Olise opted for England over the three other countries he's also eligible for.
The wingback has been capped by the Young Lions at U18 level and has also been involved with the U16s.
The Nigeria Football Federation were secretly plotting to recruit Michael Olise for the Super Eagles but he wasn't interested in holding face to face talks with the Federation and asked the emissary to speak with his dad instead.
Olise's Nigerian dad made it clear during talks that his son wasn't interested in playing for the Super Eagles and has chosen to represent France internationally.
The 21-year-old was named on the standby list for Nigeria's 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Republic of Benin and Lesotho but it was more or less an administrative blunder as the player had not decided to switch nationality to Nigeria.
When contacted by allnigeriasoccer.com, Rohr's right hand man in England and then chief scout, Tunde Adelakun admitted that Olise's name was on the list simply because of his Nigerian heritage, so it wasn't surprising he turned down the chance to link up with the team following the spate of withdrawals that hit the squad.
