Chelsea icon Glenn Hoddle reveals what impressed him about Osimhen's latest performance
Published: February 22, 2023
Chelsea icon Glenn Hoddle was left impressed by the performance of Victor Osimhen during last night's UEFA Champions League match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Napoli at Frankfurt Stadion - Frankfurt am Main.
The Nigeria international came into the game in a rich vein of form after scoring in seven consecutive games in the Italian topflight.
And he proved why he is one of the most coveted strikers in the world with a brilliant performance especially in the first half.
Osimhen caused the Eintracht Frankfurt defence all sorts of problems with his pace and movement.
After winning a penalty which was not converted by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, the Napoli number 9 showed his class again as he broke the deadlock with a bundled effort at the far post.
Hoddle praised Osimhen for his pace, hold-up play and eagerness to get on the score sheet.
Speakinig on BT Sport post-match, Hoddle said : "It's his desire to get on that score sheet and score another goal, he did on two or three occasions.
"He's got that pace to go in behind defenders. Every defender will tell you they hate it if you’ve got a player that just drifts on the shoulder of them and then from there, and he does it every time.
"And he's also good at hold-up play as well, he can hold the ball up. He's got everything at the moment.
"He's quick off the mark as we see how he got the penalty, it was incredible. Five yards, defender had no idea he was coming to get the ball.
"He's a top, top player. Let's hope he can just continue, be injury free, end up in the Premier League. It would be lovely to see him play every other week."
Osimhen has now scored 18 goals in the Serie A and two more in the Champions League, equaling his best return in a single season since turning professional.
