Footballing legend and global icon Lionel Messi took home the award for The Best FIFA Men's Player following Argentina's historic FIFA World Cup 2022 victory in December, inspired by the Paris Saint-Germain FC forward.
Messi won the award ahead of France internationals Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema, after a goal involvement of 65 (35 goals, 30 assists) for club and country over the course of the calender year.
Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro, captain Ahmed Musa and a representative of the Nigerian media Ibikunle Solaja participated in the voting for The Best FIFA Football Awards main prize - Men's Player.
Peseiro, a Portuguese, gave his first vote to Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, his second went to the eventual winner Messi, while Manchester City's Belgium midfielder Kevin De Bruyne placed third on his list.
Musa picked Messi as the top player in the world, followed by Benzema and Kylian Mbappe in that order.
