Arsenal loanee Balogun ends 355-minute wait for a Ligue 1 goal
Published: March 12, 2023
Arsenal-owned center forward Folarin Balogun was back on the scoresheet as Stade de Reims defeated Monaco 1-0 in a French Ligue 1 encounter at Stade Louis-II on Sunday evening.
Balogun's barren run would have been a big talking point had he not found the net against the Principality club.
Before the trip to Monaco, the Hale End Academy product netted his last goal in the competition against Troyes exactly a month ago, and failed to score in three consecutive matches.
Balogun ended a 355-minute wait for a Ligue 1 goal when he opened the scoring in the 51st minute against the Red and White.
The 21-year-old calmly slotted what proved to be the winning goal after he was played through by Alexis Flips following a counter-attack from the visitors.
Including today's strike versus Monaco, Balogun has mustered sixteen league goals, seventeen in all competitions, since joining Stade de Reims on loan from Arsenal last August.
Balogun is gunning for the Golden Boot in Ligue 1 and is now only three goals behind joint top scorers, Lille's Jonathan David and PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe.
Reims, who are unbeaten in their last nineteen matches in the division, are eighth in the standings with 43 points from 27 games played.
