Former Chelsea CB, 10 others join Super Eagles camp ahead of Guinea-Bissau clash

Former Chelsea central defender Kenneth Omeruo is the latest player to join the Super Eagles camp in Abuja ahead of Friday's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Guinea-Bissau.

Having spent more than a month on the sidelines due to injury, Omeruo managed to prove that his injury troubles are over in time to be considered for the 23-man roster against Guinea Bissau.

That said, the Leganes man is surely lacking match fitness considering that he has logged only 123 minutes in LaLiga 2 from a possible 990 since the start of the year.

In the fight for a starting position against Guinea-Bissau, Omeruo has to see off competition from Kevin Akpoguma, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey and the rookie Daniel Bameyi, who have all landed in Abuja with the exception of the Ajax Amsterdam player.

Goalkeepers Francis Uzoho and Kingsley Aniagboso, Premier League quartet Keelchi Iheanacho, Joe Aribo, Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi, and Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman are also in camp, bringing the players at the disposal of manager Jose Peseiro to eleven.

Apart from Bassey, Victor Sochima, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Zaidu Sanusi, Bruno Onyemaechi, Frank Onyeka, Ahmed Musa, Samuel Chukwueze, Moses Simon, Terem Moffi, Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu were still being expected.

Group A leaders in 2023 AFCON qualifying, Nigeria will take on Guinea-Bissau at the National Stadium in Abuja on March 24.
