'We didn't lose to Chelsea, Man City at home' - Awoniyi issues warning to Man Utd
Published: April 14, 2023
Taiwo Awoniyi has issued a warning to Manchester United ahead of their trip to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
Heading into the fixture against the Red Devils this weekend, the two-time European champions are in the relegation zone with 27 points from thirty matches played, same number of points as 17th-placed Everton, who have a better goal difference.
Awoniyi has highlighted that Nottingham Forest were held to draws when Chelsea and reigning champions Manchester City visited the City Ground this season, and thinks Forest can get something from the game against Manchester United.
Just as he was trying to adapt to the demands of the Premier League, Awoniyi suffered a groin injury that kept him sidelined for three months.
It was a disappointing time for the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup winner to get injured as Forest were beginning to struggle on the pitch and he was desperate to help them.
"Previously we've played against Chelsea at home as well, we've played against City as well and City is also one of the contenders to win the league, we didn't lose at home," Awoniyi said to BBC Radio Nottingham.
"Now it is Manchester United which is the first step to what we want to achieve which is the goal to stay in the Premier League.
"Like I said we just have to be ourselves, it doesn't matter who we are playing, the most important thing is ourselves, and we have to back each other up and obviously we have to fight for the three points. We have to go for it and I believe we'll get there".
Awoniyi has been used as a substitute in each of the last three games contested by Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
Prior to his injury, the Nigeria international scored match-winning goals against West Ham United, Liverpool and Southampton.
