Akpom sets new Championship record after scoring for ninth straight home game

Middlesbrough brightened their chances of picking one of the playoff spots after coming from behind to beat Hull City 3-1 at the Riverside Stadium on Wednesday night.

Four minutes before halftime, Allahyar Sayyad, with a glancing header from a corner, opened the scoring for the visitors.

Hayden Hackney slammed home a leveler nine minutes into the second half, before Cameron Archer finished through the legs of goalkeeper Karl Darlow to give Boro the lead for the first time in the game after 57 minutes.

Chuba Akpom sealed Middlesbrough's 22nd win of the campaign when he fired an unstoppable shot into the net just past the hour mark.

And in doing so, the former Arsenal striker broke the Championship record for the most consecutive goals scored at home after finding the net in nine straight games at the Riverside Stadium.

Akpom began his run against Watford on January 28, followed by goals against Blackpool (2), Queens Park Rangers (2), Reading (2), Stoke City, Preston North End, Burnley, Norwich City and Hull City.

The Super Eagles hopeful is the leading scorer in the Championship with 28 goals in thirty six matches played.

Michael Carrick's team are fourth in the standings with 74 points accumulated, eleven more than seventh-placed West Brom, who have four games left to play.
