Pundit reveals why Manchester United boss Ten Hag wants to sign Osimhen
Published: April 19, 2023The Athletic Football journalist Jon Mackenzie has revealed that Manchester United manager Erik ten Haag is the reason the Red Devils are in pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen has attracted interest from Manchester United following his impressive performances for Napoli in the last twelve months.
The Super Eagles star bagged the Serie A Best Young Player of the Year last season and is on the verge of winning the Paolo Rossi Award for the 2022-2023 campaign and would be the first African to do so.
The Napoli striker has 21 goals so far, seven more than his closest challenger, Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan, who has notched 14 goals.
Osimhen has bagged 26 goals in all competitions for the Naples-based outfit.
Mackenzie, speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, explained why Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to sign Osimhem.
"This is going to be the big question, which team has that 100m pounds available because the rumours have always circulated around him going to Manchester United," Mackenzie said.
"There are a lot of reasons for that because we know that Erik ten Hag likes a striker in that kind of mould.
"He has used traditional 9s apart from when he has played a little bit of underdog football in the UEFA Champions League and Victor Osimhen is obviously the perfect prototype for him."
Manchester United will have to fight off competition from fellow English giants, Chelsea, Bundesliga heavyweight, Bayern Munich, and French Ligue 1 defending champions, PSG for the signature of the Nigerian striker.
