Flying Eagles boss shows the door to Istanbulspor defender ahead of squad announcement
Published: May 02, 2023
Istanbulspor defender Michael Ologo's chances of being included in the Flying Eagles final 21-man squad for the upcoming FIFA U20 World Cup are non-existent, allnigeriasoccer.com understands.
Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso has scratched out Ologo's name from the list of players heading to Argentina this coming weekend after failing to join the team's pre-World Cup training camp in Abuja.
Although the center back is still being expected for the sake of it, he is unlikely to report for international duty before the trip to Argentina.
Ologo has also found himself out of favour at club level, with his last appearance for Istanbulspor coming against Ümraniyespor more than three months ago.
The 20-year-old was handed a call-up to train with the Flying Eagles ahead of the U20 AFCON after he was recommended to Bosso by one of his associates, but he wasn't properly assessed.
He was sick for a large part of the team's preparations in Abuja and did not feature in most of their preparatory games.
Ologo has represented Nigeria at U23 level, against Tanzania in the Olympic Games qualifiers last year.
