Snapped : Swedish-based CB on his way to Nigeria's capital to link up with Flying Eagles
Published: May 02, 2023
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Swedish-based defender Abel Ogwuche is on his way to the country's capital Abuja to link up with the Flying Eagles (as pictured).
As first reported by allnigeriasoccer.com a week ago, the Trelleborg man has been included on Nigeria's provisional roster for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup.
Ogwuche has earned himself another invite to the Flying Eagles after starring at the Africa U20 Cup of Nations, where he helped goalkeeper Chijoke Aniagbaso post four clean sheets during the tournament in Egypt.
Having initially started on the bench, the Tripple 44 Football Academy product forced his way into the starting lineup and his standout performance at the U20 AFCON was against Uganda, winning the Man of the Match award for his strong display in the center of defence.
In the new Swedish Superettan season, Ogwuche has been involved in three of the five matches contested by Trelleborg, most recently against GIF Sundsvall on Monday, May 1, when he came off the bench for the last eleven minutes of a seven-goal thriller.
On the invitation of Ogwuche to the Flying Eagles ahead of the World Cup, Salif Camara Jönsson, sporting director of Trelleborgs FF told the club's official website : "Abel did a good African championship and is now rewarded with a place in the World Cup squad, which is incredibly big for him as a footballer.
"He has worked hard to get this opportunity and it will be a very good experience for him as both a player and a person."
All things being equal, Ogwuche is expected to begin training with the Flying Eagles as from Wednesday.
