FC Copenhagen give 2019 Fifa U17 World Cup star green light to train with Flying Eagles
Published: May 02, 2023
Danish Superliga side FC Copenhagen have given Akinkunmi Amoo the green light to train with the Flying Eagles in Abuja.
Amoo, arguably the standout player of the Golden Eaglets squad to the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup, has not played for FC Copenhagen since August 2022 as he is recovering from a serious knee injury, and he's still a long way from being in tiptop condition.
According to our colleagues at Danish sports magazine Tipsbladet, Amoo has been given permission to visit his family in his home country and at the same time train with the NFF's medical staff as long as he is there.
FC Copenhagen and the Nigerian Football Federation are in constant contact.
"I can confirm Amoo is in Nigeria. He trained with Nigeria U20 national team today just to keep fit and part of his rehabilitation," a top source close to the winger told allnigeriasoccer.com on Tuesday.
"He is not part of the team heading to the World Cup as he is not age-eligible for the competition."
Amoo, 20, was named in the Super Eagles matchday squad for the second leg of their World Cup playoffs against Ghana in March 2022 but was not utilized off the bench by manager Augustine Eguavoen.
The Brightville Academy product has appeared in four matches for FCK since his move from Hammarby in January 2022.
