Opposition watch Fifa U20 WC: Brazil make another roster change as Arsenal striker earns call-up
Published: May 07, 2023Flying Eagles' Group D opponents, Brazil have made another change to their 21-man squad for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup.
On May 3, the Brazilian Football Confederation added Coritiba FC's Jean Pedroso to the roster as a replacement for the injured Almeria central defender Kaiky Fernandes who faces up to a month on the sidelines.
The CBF confirmed on Saturday that Arsenal striker Marquinhos is part of the 21-man squad for the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup starting on May 20 in Argentina.
Marquinhos, who was loaned out to Norwich City in the January transfer window, has been called in as a replacement for Corinthians star Pedrinho after the São Paulo club requested the striker's withdrawal from the World Cup.
The Arsenal-owned player has represented Brazil at U16 and U17 levels, and has totaled six appearances for the first team of the Gunners, scoring one goal while providing an assist.
Brazil will start their final preparations for the World Cup on Monday, May 8 at Granja Comary, in Teresópolis.
The South American champions will head to Argentina on May 17, four days before their Group D opener against Italy.
Nigeria will take on the Seleção Sub-20 at the Estadio Único Diego Armando Maradona, La Plata on May 27.
