2023 AFCONQ: Eight things to note on Super Eagles starting lineup against Sierra Leone

Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has announced his starting lineup for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Sierra Leone at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia.

1) The eleven players selected in the starting lineup have an average age of 26 years, with Kenneth Omeruo the oldest at 29 years and 244 days and Adebayo Adeleye the youngest at 23 years and 32 days.
2) With the exception of Bright Osayi-Samuel, all the outfield players have played at least one game at the Africa Cup of Nations.
3) Four players named in the starting lineup are 25 or younger: Adeleye, Osayi-Samuel, Osimhen and Chukwueze.
4) Jose Peseiro has made five changes to the starting lineup that beat Sierra Leone 2-1 in the first leg in Abuja. Umar Sadiq, Calvin Bassey, Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina and Francis Uzoho are out.
5) Four starters have English Premier League experience: Iwobi, Ndidi, Aribo and Ajayi.
6) Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi is making his ninth consecutive start for the Super Eagles since the appointment of Peseiro as coach - the only player in the squad to do so.
7) Seven starters are products of Nigeria's youth teams: Adeleye, Omeruo, Ajayi, Ndidi, Chuwkueze, Osimhen and Simon.
8) Four of the starters were eligible to represent England before becoming cap-tied to the Super Eagles. They are Osayi-Samuel, Iwobi, Ajayi and Aribo.
