Ex-Napoli striker insists son of Atletico Madrid coach is the best replacement for Osimhen
Published: June 27, 2023Former Napoli attacker Roberto Sosa reckons that Giovanni Simeone, who is the son of current Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, is the best replacement for Victor Osimhen amid speculation linking the Nigeria national teamer with a departure from the Italian champions in the summer transfer window.
Osimhen is attracting interest from Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain after a banner season that saw him score 31 goals in all competitions and win the top scorer award in the Serie A.
Reports from Italy suggested that Napoli have earmarked Atalanta's Denmark young sensation Rasmus Hojlund as the ideal replacement for Osimhen, and Lille's Jonathan David is another candidate.
Sosa has explained that he would start Simeone over Hojlund and 2020 European champion with Italy, Giacomo Raspadori.
"I would take Hojlund and Osimhen will stay, so that he can play for the place with Simeone and Raspadori," Sisa was quoted as saying by Area Napoli.
"If Napoli decide to say yes to the offers on the former Lille, I would have a lot of difficulty betting on starting Hojlund.
"If Osimhen leaves, for me, the Argentinian Giovanni Simeone is the starter over Hojlund. Between Raspadori, Simeone and Hojlund, I would absolutely play the Argentine: he is at the top of my preferences."
Osimhen has two years left on his contract at Napoli and has been offered an additional two-year deal to extend his stay at the Diego Maradona Stadium, which could increase his valuation.
